Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, is not a condition to be trifled with! The higher the level of your myopia, the greater the risk of more serious long-term consequences! Myopia is a growing global health concern, especially with its prevalence rising among children. Over the years, due to the steady changes in our life-style – from longer hours performing close-up tasks and with more regular use of digital devices through to less time spent outdoor and increasing sedentary behavior – myopia has become the most common eye condition worldwide, affecting approximately 30% of the world's population. While many may think that a simple pair of glasses will solve this issue, it is important to remember a pair of glasses is but a tool to help correct your vision, helping us to see clearer, but it is not a cure! Measures must be taken to control this irreversible condition and slow its progression, as apart from its inconvenience, high myopia is known to increase the risk of developing other serious eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, retinal detachment, and macular degeneration – some of which may even lead to permanent vision loss. Therefore, #LoveYourEyes and find out more about myopia and its risk factors, and more significantly, with one pair of eyes to last us a lifetime, become more mindful of your eyes' health, take better care of them and make eye health a priority for yourself, your loved ones and those in need of help!
